Care CommunitiesThis section lists care communities--sometimes known as continuing care communities or ccrc's standing for continuing care retirement communities. How do they differ from assisted living communities--they have a continuum of care which meets a persons needs throughout life. In assisted communities sometimes it becomes necessary to have more care such as nursing and long-term care. This necessitates moving from the assisted community to another community or hiring an outside nurse. Not many assisted communities include nursing. Therefore, continuing care communities meet longer term care needs should they become necessary.

There are so many of these communities that it's impossible to list all of them. You can join them while you are still "young" at 55, and they prefer you do, but many require you to be 62+. Often the other person can be younger at 55. Most have programs--some being quite outstanding--with the goal of keeping you healthier longer--so they feel the sooner you get started the better. Many of these communities also offer respite services for home caregivers and/or adult daycare programs. Costs: The usual is an entry fee plus a monthly fee. Please do thorough investigations before depositing large fees that the company is financially strong--especially in the current economy. Some do not require an entry deposit, just a monthly rent. Some you purchase your home, but most are rental apartments. You have to decide. They do have consultants who will help you make these decisions. Costs usually vary depending on the services you utilize.
